Cowboy boots made for real calves
If you’ve ever stood in a shop, tugging at a cowboy boot that just won’t go past your calf, you’re not alone. It’s one of the things we hear most from our customers, and it’s exactly why we created this collection. Every boot here is chosen with a little more room through the leg, so you can finally wear the western boots you love without the squeeze.
Wide calf, wide foot or high instep: find your fit
Not every fit problem is the same, so we’ve gathered a mix of styles to suit different feet and legs:
- Wide calf mid-calf boots. Ariat’s Heritage StretchFit range has a stretch panel hidden in the shaft, giving you extra room without losing that classic cowboy boot look. The Ariat Round Up StretchFit adds a modern square toe.
- Wide calf knee-high boots. The Liberty Black Aretha is cut generously through the leg and made from beautifully soft leather. It’s a boot to treasure.
- Wide foot styles. Ariat’s Heritage R Toe and J Toe come in a wide foot fit, which is perfect if standard boots pinch across the ball of your foot.
- Ankle cowboy boots. If calves have always been the problem, an ankle boot sidesteps it entirely. Our Rhinestone Ankle Cowboy Boots, the White Ankle Cowboy Boots and the Ariat Darlin all give you the full western look with none of the struggle.
How to measure your calf
Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your calf while you’re sitting with your foot flat on the floor. Then compare that number to the calf measurement in each boot’s description. If you’re right at the maximum, the boot will feel a little roomy at first and then snug as you wear it, which is just what you want, because leather softens and moulds to your leg over time.
Wide feet too?
If you have wide feet and wide calves, size for your calf first. If that makes the foot feel slightly loose, a thicker pair of boot socks usually does the trick and keeps you comfy all day.
Not sure? Just ask us
Choosing boots online when fit has let you down before can feel daunting, and we completely understand. Send us a message with your calf measurement and your usual shoe size, and we’ll tell you honestly which boots will work for you, and which won’t. We’d always rather help you find the right pair the first time.
